| Description | On June 11, 2009 I had the pleasure of speaking with Sylvie, owner of SLSTRI.com. A very nice woman she is a triathlete from Germany and has settled in Oceanside, California. The very first words she said was "It's June Gloom" Interested in her background we got into the conversation of Oxysox Compression socks. A small company, their philosophy behind their brand defines functionality and high quality. Germans do think and do work. Their socks are known for its patented snug and padded. Materials include an antibacterial component known as raypropoline (I'm not quite sure on the spelling). These are the types of socks where you can wear before, during, and after a triathlon. Triathletes do not have seconds to spare, let alone during the Ironman. Wear Oxysox anytime, they were even worn under Bella Comerford's wedding dress in November. All in all Sylvie says these are the perfect socks and get them at your local triathlete and sports specialty stores. Gender Specific - they are specially made tailored to men's and women's feet. Brad Davis over at Oxysox said the best: "The new socks on the market are the graduated compression socks. The socks go over the calf and creates compression from the ankle up. The highest compression area is the ankle and gradually compresses to over the calf. This particular sock increases blood flow and decreases swelling and the recuperation time is much less! These socks were made primarily for marathon and triathlon runners and now the interest is big among 10K runners too. Durable fiber is polypropilen. " Tom from 3Sports in Richmond, VA said, "Compression socks can come in left and right feel labeling and one that are not labeled. There are different standards depending on the manufacturer but all promote good bloodflow which reduces cramping." Tara from REI feels that compression socks vs regular socks are not that big of a difference unless you are a "serious runner." She feels that material is the biggest benefit and the fact that is a socks "wicks" that is where you should spend your money. (see upcoming review of Wicks) |
